2000s Airport Style was Actually Relatable AF

00s

2000s airport style doesn't get the attention it deserves. Unlike the minimalist fashion that dominated 90s airport style, celebrity airport outfits in the 2000s were all about being extra without sacrificing comfort. While we may not be racing to copy these looks H2T just yet, they still deserve a little love.

In the 90s, classic Levi's jeans were celebrities' plane pants of choice, but in the 2000s it was all about stretch pants. Juicy Couture was poppin' and athleisure was on the rise. In a decade where dodging the paps was damn near impossible (see Britney Spears for reference), sunglasses and a hat were the perfect accessories for going incognito.

2000s airport outfits were all about looking comfy in style.

Celebrities —they're just like us!

Kim Kardashian

A velour tracksuit was undoubtedly the airport outfit of the 2000s. Consider these next three looks to be Exhibits A, B, and C. While Kimmy's style has certainly evolved over the years, she's been a trendsetter since day 1. As part of the It-Girl squad of the 2000s, she helped to define celebrity airport style throughout the decade.

It's nice to know that we weren't the only ones who had a spray tan or two go wrong in the 2000s. While it's hard to look at anything other than the spray tan Kim sported in all of seasons 1-5 of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, we're 100% here for this look.

You could always count on Kim K's airport outfits to consist of the following: a matching sweatsuit, Louis Vuitton monogram luggage, and a beat face that says just came from a photo shoot.

Mariah Carey

A true scientist knows you need multiple subjects to prove a theory. And any true fashion lover knows that pairing together 2000s fashion trends was in fact a science. If Kim K hadn't already proved our point that velour tracksuits were the airport outfit, this paparazzi shot of Mariah Carey does.

From the rolled-up pant-legs to the shades to the patent peep-toe wedges, this look is 2000s AF. Homegirl was living large.

Selena Gomez

Remember back in the day when you worshipped Disney Channel stars and none of them had gone to rehab yet? Those were simpler times.

If you didn't wear at least 10 variations of this outfit during your emo phase, then you clearly weren't a kid in the 2000s. Selena Gomez's low-rise jeans and slim-fit graphic tee were staples of every middle school girl's closet. And the bane of their existence thanks to the muffin top it was guaranteed to give you.

Paris Hilton & Nicky Hilton

There's so much going on with these outfits that we don't even know where to start roasting the Hilton girls. So instead we'll make a list.

Cringe-worthy things we definitely would have loved about these early 2000s outfits: the glittery bags that you'd scuff in .2 seconds, the sheer size of Paris' sunglasses, Paris' hat, Paris' shirt, Paris' pose, how Nicky is wearing 12 different shades of blue and none of them really work together, the baby blue Uggs, Nicky's leggings-Uggs combo, that fugly coat/

Need we say more?

Miley Cyrus

The world was a better place when Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus were first dating. Crying during Nicholas Sparks movies was still considered an acceptable hobby, and no one associated Miley with foam fingers and twerking.

If you were anything like us, you recovered from your attempted emo phase by going full boho in the late 2000s and early 2010s. During said phase, you worshipped Miley Cyrus. The turquoise jewelry, slouchy beanie (bobby pinned in place obvi), and peekaboo bra were essential to your new boho aesthetic.

Gisele Bundchen

In the 2000s, Victoria Secret models ruled the world and Gisele Bundchen was royalty. This bootcut jeans and ballet flats combo was considered the perfect pairing. Hobo bags were considered cute. And too many of us watched the VS Fashion Show as a family (even though your dad totally DVRed it so he could jerk off to it later). After begging your mom to let you buy 7 pairs of neon-colored VS Pink undies because they were on sale, you left the mall and went straight to your bedroom to practice your runway walk.

Blake Lively & Penn Badgley

If there's one 2000s outfit we can really relate to the most, it's this one. The plane pillow. The 20lb hobo bag that's digging into your shoulder. The unflattering shot of what appears to be an oncoming sneeze. If anything, Blake Lively should make you feel better about your own plane outfits during the decade.

The real lesson we learned from 2000s airport outfits: wear Zeitgeist's long flight-friendly sustainable streetwear to avoid a fashion faux-pas.
